poem a day

So, I missed
the beginning, having missed
other beginnings and let them pass,
ostensibly unnoticed,

but this time a breath
is forced into my chest, and my ribs
are pressed apart to make some room
for a stretch into a space that I have left
uninhabited, but I missed.

So, I missed
the beginning, but I’m coming
in anyway. You may feel my heels
in your ribs; my elbows may press
your organs in places.
The stretch will pinch
or burn. I’m not sure
yet. You’ll know when I find
what I missed.
